According to the American Nurses Association, more than 65,000 registered nurses were licensed in the first half of 2006, joining 2.9 million other registered nurses in the nation’s largest health care profession.
And according to the BLS, registered nursing jobs are expected to grow 23 percent from 2006 to 2016, much faster than the average for all occupations. The industries with the three highest projected growth rates for nursing jobs are offices of physicians (39 percent), home health care services (39 percent), and outpatient care centers (34 percent).
